De Soto in for evening of Chamber music

October 7, 2004

The De Soto Chamber of Commerce's usually offers golf tournament or, perhaps, bingo, as fund-raisers. This month, the Chamber will offer something different.

The Chamber's Musical Extravaganza will be from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at The Crossing, on the corner of Peoria and 83rd streets downtown. Tickets for the event are $5 in advance or $8 at the door. For more information, call Sara Ritter at 583-1585.

Chamber President Shannan Nelson said the idea was to offer De Soto residents an evening of entertainment while raising money for the Chamber and a Chamber member.

"I'm just really impressed with what Bill and Donna Wilting are doing at the Youth Center," he said. "The Chamber wanted to do a fund-raiser, and we wanted to support their work."

Tickets will support the Chamber. There will also be a silent auction to support the Wilting's ministry.

Nelson said the music will include performances by Jeff Beruan (see related story), the Trails West Barbershop Quartet, sisters Madison and Hannah DeCamp on violin and cello, and Rindy Fairchildon the clarinet.

"Jeff used to be involved in the De Soto Youth Center, so it was a good fit with him, as well," Nelson said. "I've heard the DeCamp sisters. They are very good.
