Thanks giving should come easy to community
Thanksgiving 2004 should find De Soto a thankful community. No year is without tragedies. But those in De Soto have beem of a personal or family level. The city has its challenges, but it has avoided the tornadoes, hurricanes, fires or natural disasters that have plagued other American cities in recent years.
The community hasn't been untouched by war. Many of its sons and daughters will be spending the holidays in the Middle East, but to date all deployed there have returned safely.
We at the paper are thankful for a small but growing community that always seems to provide interesting stories even if some appear so complex they've confounded several levels of government since the paper's founding. We are thankful there is local leadership that nonetheless believes there are solutions and are willing to fight for them.
We are once again thankful to the staffs at City Hall and the school district who willingly participate in keeping government transparent.
We are thankful also for the many engaging residents willing to share their stories with our readers and trusting us to write them.
