Leonard D. Myers
Services for Leonard D. Myers, 79, Overland Park, were Wednesday, March 17, at Maple Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Myers died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at his home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1924, near the Wyandotte-Johnson county lines, the son of Leonard and Eva Myers. He lived all of his life within a half-mile of his birthplace. He attended Junction Elementary School and Shawnee Mission Rural High School.
He joined the Kinney-Heights Maple Hill Baptist Church in 1941 while serving with the 16th Armored Division that captured Pilsen, Czechoslovakia.
Mr. Myers was a self-employed carpenter/contractor and homebuilder. He built numerous homes in the De Soto and Shawnee areas. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union No. 61 and the American Legion Post No. 327.
He married Juanita Smith on May 6, 1944. She died earlier. A brother, Harold Myers, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Lenita Wood, Winslow, and Roxanne Rice, of the home; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Kansas City Hospice, 12006 West 87th Street, Lenexa 66215 or to the American Diabetes Association.
Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan., was in charge of arrangements.
