John L. Scott Sr.
Services for John Leonard Scott Sr., 88, formerly of White City, were Tuesday, June 1, at the White City Christian Church. Burial was at the White City Cemetery.
Mr. Scott died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the Royal Terrace Nursing Center in Olathe.
He was born June 26, 1915, in White City, the son of Fay Leonard and Nellie Sarah Blythe Scott. He graduated from White City High School and Kansas State University.
While at KSU, Mr. Scott was a pitcher and outfielder on the baseball team. He was co-captain of the team his senior year. He also played town ball in White City and managed White City town teams as well.
He was a member of the White City Christian Church, a Mason for more than 60 years, and was a Master Mason and a past member of the Mr. County Hospital Board.
He married Delphine Cleone Gruber on Nov. 17, 1938, in Kansas City, Mo. She died May 21, 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Johnette Marie Scott, Germany; a son, John Leonard Scott Jr., De Soto; a brother, Dale Scott, White City; and two grandchildren.
Two sisters, Ermma Linn and Doris Lester, and a brother Lloyd Scott preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the White City Christian Church, sent in care of Penswell-Gabel Council Grove Chapel, 137 N. Union St., Council Grove 66846.
