Goodin graduates from Naval Academy
Navy Ensign Joshua P. Goodin, a 2000 graduate of De Soto High School, graduated May 28 from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank in the United States Navy.
Goodin successfully completed four years of intensive academic, physical and professional training, resulting in a bachelor of science degree with a major in political science. As a graduate of the Naval Academy, Goodin completed a four-year, total-immersion program where its academic program focused on the educational needs of the Navy and Marine Corps, and was superimposed on a strict, professional military training environment emphasizing the development of leadership skills.
Goodin's family members attended the weeklong celebration in Annapolis, which included a garden party at the superintendent's home, an athletic reception, a demonstration by the Blue Angels, a dinner cruise, and a formal ball.
Goodin was the starting right tackle for the academy's football team. He will be one of the offensive coaches for the football team this fall.
He was accepted as a naval aviator and will begin flight school in Pensacola, Fla., in January 2005.
Goodin is the son of C.R. and Barbara Goodin, Shawnee, and the grandson of Frank and Alice Goodin, Bonner Springs.
