The handful of culinary arts students were preparing items for the debut of the Red Card Cafe Oct. 16. The program is part of a vocational education cooperative the De Soto and Eudora school districts established this year.

Winning three games in a six-day time span has done wonders for De Soto’s post-season opportunities. Now all the Wildcats have to do is steal a win Thursday from the state’s No. 2 ranked team, Maranatha Academy, to secure the top seed going into post-season soccer action.
Sore elbow cuts short Hampton’s state stay

The Wildcat sophomore No. 1 singles player was taking part in her fourth match when a recurring case of tennis elbow ended her run at the 4A state tennis tournament last Friday and Saturday in Pratt. Trailing 7-2 and struggling to just hold onto her racket, Hampton was forced to walk away from her first berth to the post-season tournament.

The De Soto Planning Commission was presented with a draft update of the city’s comprehensive plan Tuesday that introduced five new land-use categories to help the city prepare for the next 20 years.
Brown’s dagger not enough to foil Cards

He’s what we call our dagger player,” De Soto coach Brad Scott said. “He doesn’t always see the ball, but somewhere along the line he’s going to make that big play — that play that turns the game.” Brown made several of those plays Friday at Laws Field in Eudora, and it was almost enough to rally the Wildcats from a 14-point halftime deficit.
