Services for Lloyd Wesley Coker, 82, De Soto, were Wednesday, June 4, at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, De Soto. Burial was in De Soto Cemetery.

Mr. Coker died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at his home. He was a lifelong De Soto resident.

He was born Dec. 1, 1920, in De Soto, the son of Wes and Stella Coker. He graduated from De Soto High School in 1938.

Mr. Coker served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He co-owned his family's general merchandise store, Coker Brothers, for 60 years until his retirement.

He was a lifetime member of De Soto Rotary, Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Methodist Church of De Soto, served on the De Soto Bank Board and was listed in the Who's Who in the Midwest for Businessmen.

He married Maxine Oelschlaeger on Jan. 30, 1943. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Loya Lou Beery, De Soto, and Gayla Sue Hougham, Lenexa; a brother, Leon Coker, De Soto; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
