De Soto nets seventh-place finish in tourney
De Soto outscored Osawatomie 32-26 in the second half, posting a 54-48 win at the Spring Hill Boys Invitational Basketball tournament last week. The win gave De Soto a seventh-place finish in the event.
The Wildcats had four players score in double figures for the win. Danny Brown led all scorers with 18 points. Ryan Brown added 12 points, while Pete Crall and Mike Allen tallied 10 points apiece.
Osawatomie took a 9-8 advantage after the first period, but De Soto rallied, tying the game at 22-22 at intermission.
The Wildcats took a 37-34 lead into the final period of play.
De Soto dropped a 54-33 decision to Gardner-Edgerton in the second round of the tournament.
The Trailblazers pulled away gradually each period and were never threatened after the first period. Gardner-Edgerton took leads of 14-9, 25-16 and 37-22 after the breaks.
Jacob Nellor led all scorers with 17 points on the night. He scored eight points in the second frame after being shut out in the opening eight minutes.
Kyle Berg added eight points for the Blazers and Tyler Lane, Geoff Thomas and Aaron Ballew each added six points a piece.
Danny Brown and Crall led the Wildcat offense with nine points each. Josh Arnold and Pete Crall each had six points.
De Soto, 2-9, travel to Piper Friday for a clash of Kaw Valley rivals. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
