DHS volleyball team still looking for first win
The Wildcat volleyball team continued to struggle at the Basehor-Linwood quadrangular in girls high school volleyball.
De Soto lost in straight sets to Basehor-Linwood, Bonner Springs and Mill Valley.
In the final match of the night against Mill Valley, De Soto got on the board first in both games, but couldn't hold on and they lost 15-2 and15-6.
McKenzie King and Emily Holton served for the two points De Soto scored in the first game. Both points came off of hitting errors by Mill Valley.
Brooke Woolery and Kelli Wilbur combined to serve up nine points for the Lady Jaguars with five and four points respectively.
In the second game, Tia Bernard and Nicki Crowley served the Wildcats to a 3-0 lead with an ace coming from Crowley.
But Mill Valley answered by running off five straight points to take the lead for good. After De Soto came back to tie the game at 5-5, with Megan Atwell's serving and a couple of Jaguar hitting errors, Mill Valley ran off eight straight points to go up 13-5.
Five different Mill Valley players had kills in the second game, with Kelli Wilbur leading the way with three. Allie Heinen led De Soto with three kills in the second game.
For the match, Wilbur led all hitters with six kills. Gundelfinger and Mindy DeGroot chipped in with four and three kills respectively.
Allie Heinen led the way for De Soto with four kills against Mill Valley. Lisa Lambert chipped in with one.
In its only action of the week, De Soto traveled to Lansing for a triangular with the Lions, and Piper on Tuesday night.
