Cannon elected 2002 chamber president
From staff reports
Betty Cannon was elected president of the De Soto Chamber of Commerce at last Thursday's meeting.
In winning the position, Cannon, owner of Cannon Trucking in De Soto, defeated Dan Simon, publisher of The De Soto Explorer. In the only other contested election, Simon was elected treasurer over Steve Graham, vice president of Titan Construction.
Dan Gulley, salesman with J.C. Nichols Real Estate, was elected vice president and Kathy Ohmes, president of Sunflower Construction, ran unopposed for their positions.
Cannon said she was honored to represent her hometown chamber.
"I'm really looking forward to the year," she said. "I just want to do what I can to help our members prosper."
Cannon said the 2002 officers had an informal meeting Tuesday.
"I would like to recruit past members who have dropped away for whatever reason," she said. "I hope we can show them what the chamber can do for them."
Cannon will succeed Pat Atchison, who served as president in 2000 and 2001.
