Chamber of Commerce officer elections Thursday
De Soto Chamber of Commerce officers for 2002 will be electedThursday at the organization's monthly meeting.
The meeting will start at 11:30 a.m., at the De Soto United Methodist Church.
The slate of candidates for 2002 is:
President Betty Cannon, owner of Cannon Trucking, and Dan Simon, publisher of The De Soto Explorer.
Vice-president Dan Gulley, salesman with J.C. Nichols Real Estate.
Secretary Kathy Ohmes, president Sunflower Construction.
Treasurer Dan Simon and Steve Graham, vice-president of sales and marketing for Titan Construction.
The speaker at this meeting will be Johnson County Sheriff John Foster. The program will also include a presentation on De Soto High School's in-house training class.
Chamber director Marge Morse said tickets are still available for the Chamber Christmas Dinner. The dinner will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at the De Soto Community Center.
This year's event will feature Negro League great Buck O'Neil, who will be available to sign autographs.
"We wanted to try something different this year," Morse said. "Dr. Marilyn Laymen heard him talk and just thought he was such an inspirational speaker. She was able to arrange to get him for us."
Mama G's, a spinoff franchise for the Mr. Goodcents chain, will cater the dinner.
Tickets are available for $25. The dinner is open to all, Morse said.
