MVHS softball team loses two
With a defensive breakdown against 6A power St. Thomas Aquinas, the Mill Valley softball team lost their first doubleheader of the season.
The Jaguars (12-6 overall) lost to the visiting Saints, 4-1 (11 innings) and 6-3.
Mill Valley senior Ashley Perkins went 10 1/3 innings in the first game, before giving way to sophomore Tiffani Thurman. Aquinas rallied for three runs in the 11th inning to pull out the win.
In the nightcap, the Jaguars held a 3-0 lead, but multiple errors by Mill Valley keyed an Aquinas run.
"It was probably our worst team performance of the year," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "We just did not play well and fell apart as a team."
Mill Valley will play Santa Fe Trail on Friday, with the doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
Postseason will arrive earlier than expected for Mill Valley. Pairings for the Class 4A Baseball Regional Tournament will be decided on Saturday.
The Lady Jaguars are one of five teams with ten or more wins in the regional. Other teams are Bishop Ward. Sumner Academy; Piper. Basehor-Linwood, De Soto, Baldwin and Eudora.
