Services for Cecile May Culp, 89, De Soto, were Monday, May 7, at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel. Burial was at the De Soto Cemetery.

Ms. Culp died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her daughter's home in Shawnee.

She was born June 3, 1911, in De Soto. She was a lifetime resident of De Soto, but lived in Shawnee with her daughter during her illness.

Ms. Culp was a graduate of Dickenson Business School and the Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, where she earned teaching degrees in organ and piano. She was an organist and pianist in churches and also wrote such books as "The History of Lenape" and "The History of De Soto, Kan."

Survivors include a daughter, Joann Mizell, Shawnee; two sons, Jim Alexander, Sun City, Ariz., and Jack Alexander, Fulton, Mo.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
