Neeland returns to public service
Outgoing De Soto City Councilman Duke Neeland has been elected to serve as president of the De Soto Economic Development Council.
Neeland, who lost to Dave Anderson in last month's De Soto mayoral contest, was elected last Wednesday. He will serve out the unexpired term of Jim Beadle who resigned the post after retiring from his insurance business earlier this year.
De Soto Chamber of Commerce President Pat Atchison said Neeland has purchased individual memberships to the chamber and the economic development council. He received 15 of the 19 votes cast by the members attending the meeting. Dan Gulley received four votes.
"It's time to put the (mayoral) election behind us and move on," Atchison said. "I think Duke and Dave want to work together for De Soto.
"Duke has a lot of experience with economic development. He was the city council's designated representative to the economic development group for the last two years."
The economic development council will soon have a new office. Economic Development Director Marge Morse said remodeling of the council's new offices in the old city hall are just about completed after two chamber work days.
Morse said they is a need for volunteers to help with the move, which should occur in the next week. Those wishing to have their names place list can call Morse at 583-1585.
