Mass of Christian burial for Helen Marie Hickey, 91, Olathe, was Monday, June 4, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe. Burial was at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery, Gardner.
Mrs. Hickey died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 2, 1910, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Henry and Eva Groom Flanagan. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., and St. Louis before moving to the De Soto and Olathe area in 1947. She was a 1928 graduate of Paseo High School, and later graduated from Kansas City Business College.
She worked as a secretary for the National Bank Examiners in Kansas City, Mo. for 15 years. She also was a secretary for the Kansas University political science department for six years before retiring in 1962.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe. She volunteered for 13 years at the Olathe Medical Center for the ladies auxiliary where she received "Volunteer of the Year." She also was active with Cedar House and the Clothes Closet Organization, both in Olathe.
She married Gerald Vincent Hickey Sr. on Feb. 10, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Gerald V. Hickey, Jr., Olathe; a daughter, Janet M. Hickey, Olathe; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Olathe Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary. They may be sent in care of Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner.
