Busy time for Chamber of Commerce
The De Soto Chamber of Commerce has scheduled two special events for the coming weeks.
Chamber President Pat Atchison said the chamber's inaugural business expo will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, June 14, at De Soto High School.
As of Tuesday, 28 local businesses have registered to have booths at the event, she said.
The day will also include a full slate of demonstrations and presentations from businesses and organizations, Atchison said.
"I would really encourage members of the community to attend," she said. "There should be a lot of interesting things."
Local business owners can learn about a new business opportunity to the area by attending a joint meeting of the chamber and the De Soto Economic Development Council June 27 at the old city council room in Memorial Hall, 33150 W. 83rd Street.
Speaking at the 4 p.m. gathering will be National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics CEO Steve Baker and the organization's director of development Rob Miller.
The NAIA recently voted to relocate its national headquarters to the nearby Cedar Creek subdivision of Olathe.
"They will be talking about the NAIA's vision for the area and the opportunities that offers to De Soto," Atchison said. "The NAIA will bring in a lot of people who will be needing hotel rooms, food service and who knows what else."
