Funeral services for John Edward Rogers, 78, De Soto, were Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. Burial was in De Soto Cemetery.

Mr. Rogers died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home.

He was born June 13, 1922, in Piper, the son of William Franklin Rogers and Nellie Lanora Douglas Rogers. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Rogers was a cement finisher and farmer. He worked for Local No. 0518 in Kansas City, Mo., of the Cement Masons.

As a young man, he worked on the Union Pacific Railroad.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of De Soto No. 6654, Cement Masons Local No. 0518, Kansas City, Mo., and the Disabled American Veterans.

He married Roma June Plummer Rogers on March 21, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo. She died April 4, 2001.

Two brothers, Bill Rogers and Homer Rogers, and two sisters, Dorothy Stone and Tootie Shultz also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Rogers, De Soto; two daughters, Susie Kramer and Polly Rogers, both of De Soto; two sisters, Janie Lawson, De Soto; and Lavina Sopher, Bonner Springs; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
