Erickson takes eighth, leads Mill Valley golfers at Sunflower Classic

April 19, 2001

Mill Valley senior Lane Erickson placed eighth at the Sunflower Classic on Saturday. Erickson shot an eight-over-par 80, which put him in a six-way tie.

Erickson finished eighth in a scorecard playoff. DeSoto's Matt Holton also shot an 80 and placed tenth.

The Jaguars finished with a score of 332, taking 11th place out of the 13-team field. DeSoto finished last with a score of 336.

Severe weather stopped all the players from completing a full 18 holes, but the top three players from each school completed their rounds to decide the championship.

Piper won the event with a 301 score, six strokes better than defending Class 5A State champion Andover and Shawnee Mission Northwest.
