Body found in river identified as Kansas City woman
A woman whose body was found in the Kansas River near DeSoto last week has been identified and her death has been ruled a homicide by police.
The victim has been identified as Jennifer Menger, 29, from Kansas City, Mo.
Leavenworth County authorities pullled Menger's body from the river on the evening of June 20. Police were contacted by two fishermen who saw the body floating, face down, in Stranger Creek, east of Linwood.
Leavenworth deputies spotted the body about an hour later floating east. Menger's body was pulled from the river about one mile east of DeSoto.
The body was nude and police suspected foul play from the beginning, a spokesman for the department said. The body was taken to Kansas University Medical Center where an autopsy was performed.
She was identified at the time as a white female with short dark hair. She had a 12-inch surgical scar on her left leg where a metal brace with screws had been installed.
She had a small silver ring on the middle finger of her left hand with the number 925 stamped on it.
Officials will not say how the woman was identified, how she was killed or if they have any suspects.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Department at (913) 682-1313.
