Johnson County Commission to meet with Oz officials next week
Johnson County Commissioners will meet with officials from Oz Entertainment Co. for the first time next Wednesday to discuss the proposed Wonderful World of Oz Theme Park and Resort.
Oz developers plan to build a $761 million dollar theme park and resort at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant near DeSoto. In exchange for the land, Oz officials have agreed to clean up the solid waste contaminants at the 9,065-acre plant.
During their meeting with the commission, Oz officials are expected to ask the county to spend $20 million on highway improvements and construction of a lake near the theme park.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m., in the General Education Building at Johnson County Community College at 12345 College Blvd. in Overland Park.
The meeting will be open to the public, but no public comments will be allowed during the meeting.
Commissioner Johnna Lingle said the commission plans to host public hearings on the matter at a later date.
